This is something to take to a clinician. The Atlas can tell you what is known about should you start trt? a decision framework in general. It cannot tell you what is happening in your body, and the difference matters most for exactly the symptoms that bring people to this page.

Starting testosterone is, for most men, a long-term or lifelong commitment that suppresses fertility and requires ongoing monitoring. A sound decision framework asks, in order: Are symptoms truly present and consistent with hypogonadism? Are two separate morning testosterone levels genuinely low (ideally by LC-MS/MS)? Has a cause been sought (LH/FSH, prolactin, iron studies, weight/sleep/medications)? Have reversible causes (obesity, poor sleep, opioids, alcohol) been addressed first? Is fertility wanted now or later? Are the risks (polycythemia, the lifelong commitment, the fertility suppression) understood? Only after these does the choice of formulation matter. Many men labeled 'Low T' have a reversible cause or borderline numbers where lifestyle should come first.

TRT is usually a lifelong commitment, the decision deserves more than a lab number.

What people take it for

These are the reasons people give for taking it. They are not effects it has been shown to have.

  • A pre-decision framework for TRT

What people get wrong

  • Often saidA low testosterone number means you should start TRT

ActuallyDiagnosis needs two morning labs plus symptoms plus a cause work-up; many low values are reversible (weight, sleep, opioids) or borderline, where lifestyle comes first.
