What can go wrong

Proprietary blends hide doses. The Alpha Brain litigation highlighted that a company-funded study did not support its cognitive claims. Note: Onnit appeared on the FTC's 2023 mass 'Notice of Penalty Offenses' mailing, a deterrence notice to ~700 firms, NOT an enforcement action or finding of wrongdoing.

Onnit (acquired by Unilever in 2021) is closely tied to Joe Rogan, an early backer and part-owner who promoted Alpha Brain heavily on his podcast. Its testosterone offering, 'Total Strength + Performance' (legacy 'T+'), uses an undisclosed proprietary 'Onnit Power Blend' of D-aspartic acid, mucuna pruriens, Eurycoma longifolia, and stinging nettle. The flagship Alpha Brain faced a class action (Lotz v. Onnit, dismissed with prejudice 2025) alleging the company's own study showed no benefit over placebo on most measures.
