GHRP-2 & GHRP-6
The Original Growth-Hormone-Releasing Peptides, Hunger, Cortisol, Prolactin
Evidence grade 2 of 5, Thin. Read how the Atlas grades evidence.
The written rationale for this grade is still being prepared.

What can go wrong
GH-excess risks (insulin resistance, fluid retention, joint pain, IGF-1 elevation) apply, compounded by cortisol/prolactin elevation with GHRP-6 (potential mood, libido, and gynecomastia concerns from prolactin). Strong appetite stimulation can be an unwanted effect. All products are research-chemical or compounded with unverified purity.
This is something to take to a clinician. The Atlas can tell you what is known about ghrp-2 & ghrp-6 in general. It cannot tell you what is happening in your body, and the difference matters most for exactly the symptoms that bring people to this page.
GHRP-2 and GHRP-6 are earlier-generation synthetic growth-hormone-releasing peptides that act on the ghrelin receptor GHS-R1a to trigger endogenous GH release. They are the reference points against which 'cleaner' peptides like ipamorelin are marketed. Their defining feature is off-target activity: GHRP-6 in particular strongly stimulates appetite and raises cortisol and prolactin, while GHRP-2 is more selective and a more potent GH stimulus. Neither is FDA-approved.
The first-generation GHRPs, more hunger and cortisol, more off-target noise.
What people take it for
These are the reasons people give for taking it. They are not effects it has been shown to have.
How it is supposed to work
Both bind GHS-R1a to mimic ghrelin and evoke pituitary GH release. GHRP-6 is a non-selective ghrelin agonist that also engages appetite pathways, producing pronounced hunger; GHRP-2 is more GHS-R1a-selective, giving comparable or higher GH release with less appetite drive.
Why these got superseded
The appetite, cortisol, and prolactin elevations of first-generation GHRPs are exactly what next-generation selective agonists like ipamorelin were designed to avoid. Cortisol co-secretion is reported roughly 2-3x higher with GHRP-6 than GHRP-2. That off-target profile, plus lack of approval, is why the market has largely shifted toward ipamorelin and CJC-1295 stacks.
Replacement is not the same as a cycle
Like all GH secretagogues, effective doses push GH/IGF-1 above baseline in healthy users; GHRP-6 adds supraphysiologic cortisol and prolactin excursions on top of that.
What people get wrong
Often said'GHRP-6's hunger means it's working.'
ActuallyThe appetite spike reflects non-selective ghrelin-receptor activation, not a marker of GH benefit; it is an off-target effect that newer peptides were designed to remove.
Who profits, and who pushes back
Nobody is named here yet, because we have not done that work on this entry. Read that as unfinished. Somebody almost certainly sells this, and somebody almost certainly disputes it. Assume both until we have checked.
Set against the alternatives
GHRP-6 = original, potent but non-selective, big hunger and cortisol/prolactin spikes. GHRP-2 = improved selectivity, higher GH peak, less appetite. Ipamorelin = newest generation, negligible cortisol/prolactin and little hunger.
The market for this
What follows describes how this is bought and sold. It is not a buying guide and it is not an endorsement of any seller.
Sold as research chemicals or compounded; often chosen deliberately when appetite stimulation is wanted (e.g., bulking).
At a glance
- GHRP-6 hunger
- Strong (appetite in ~70-80% of subjects)
- GHRP-2 hunger
- Modest (under ~20%)
- Cortisol
- GHRP-6 higher than GHRP-2
- GH potency
- GHRP-2 typically higher peak
