Stem Cell & PRP for the Penis
The 'P-Shot' and Stem-Cell Enhancement Claims vs Evidence, FTC/FDA Stance
Evidence grade 2 of 5, Thin. Read how the Atlas grades evidence.
The written rationale for this grade is still being prepared.
- FDA
- No FDA approval for penile enhancement or ED; FDA warns against unapproved stem-cell products
Reference only. Not medical advice.
This is something to take to a clinician. The Atlas can tell you what is known about stem cell & prp for the penis in general. It cannot tell you what is happening in your body, and the difference matters most for exactly the symptoms that bring people to this page.
The 'P-Shot' (Priapus Shot) injects autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) into the penis on the theory that platelet growth factors stimulate tissue and improve size, sensation, or erectile function; separate clinics market adipose-derived stem-cell injections. Neither is FDA-approved for penile enhancement or erectile dysfunction. PRP for ED has mixed, mostly small trial data; for cosmetic enlargement the evidence is essentially absent. The FDA warns that unapproved stem-cell therapies can be harmful, and the FTC has acted against deceptive regenerative-medicine marketing.
Marketed as regenerative enhancement; not approved, and the enhancement evidence is weak.
What people take it for
These are the reasons people give for taking it. They are not effects it has been shown to have.
How it is supposed to work
PRP is prepared by centrifuging the patient's own blood to concentrate platelets and their growth factors (PDGF, VEGF, TGF-beta), then injecting into the shaft/glans on the rationale that these factors promote angiogenesis and tissue repair. Adipose-derived stem-cell protocols claim regenerative differentiation. The biological rationale is plausible for tissue repair, but plausibility is not proof of cosmetic enhancement, and 'P-Shot' specifically uses PRP, not stem cells, despite frequent conflation in marketing.
Claims vs evidence and the regulatory line
The enhancement claims (added length/girth) have no credible controlled support. For erectile dysfunction, PRP has a handful of small and largely unblinded trials with mixed results, promising enough to study, not enough to recommend, and ISSM/AUA treat it as investigational. Stem-cell injection for sexual function is, in independent commentary (e.g., regenerative-biology critics), an unproven treatment exposing patients to risk. Regulators are explicit: the FDA states unapproved stem-cell products can be harmful and may be illegal, and the FTC has pursued companies for deceptive stem-cell/PRP marketing. Branding ('P-Shot', proprietary protocols) does not change the evidentiary status.
Safety in detail
Injecting PRP or stem-cell preparations into the penis for enhancement is an unproven use. Improper injection risks bleeding, infection, scarring, and functional damage. Stem-cell products marketed for this purpose are not FDA-approved and may be illegal; the FDA has warned that unapproved stem-cell therapies can cause serious harm.
What people get wrong
Often saidThe P-Shot uses stem cells
ActuallyNo, it uses platelet-rich plasma; the stem-cell framing is marketing conflation.
Often saidPRP/stem cells permanently enlarge the penis
ActuallyThere is no credible controlled evidence of size gain; enhancement claims are unsupported.
Often saidThese are FDA-approved regenerative therapies
ActuallyNeither is approved for penile enhancement or ED; the FDA warns specifically against unapproved stem-cell products.
Who profits, and who pushes back
Nobody is named here yet, because we have not done that work on this entry. Read that as unfinished. Somebody almost certainly sells this, and somebody almost certainly disputes it. Assume both until we have checked.
At a glance
- P-Shot material
- Autologous PRP (not stem cells)
- Stem-cell version
- Adipose-derived cells, unproven, FDA-warned
- Enhancement evidence
- Minimal to none for size; mixed/small for ED
- Regulatory
- No approval; FDA/FTC enforcement context
