Hims & Hers
Public Telehealth Platform (Enclomiphene + PDE5; SPAC 2021)
Evidence grade 4 of 5, Strong. Read how the Atlas grades evidence.
The written rationale for this grade is still being prepared.
- FDA
- Markets FDA-approved PDE5 inhibitors and off-label enclomiphene
Reference only. Not medical advice.
What can go wrong
PDE5 inhibitors are contraindicated with nitrates. Enclomiphene is used off-label for hypogonadism with the monitoring caveats noted in the enclomiphene entry. As a public company, Hims faces marketing-compliance scrutiny; specific clinical claims should be checked against on-label status.
This is something to take to a clinician. The Atlas can tell you what is known about hims & hers in general. It cannot tell you what is happening in your body, and the difference matters most for exactly the symptoms that bring people to this page.
Hims & Hers is a publicly traded direct-to-consumer telehealth platform that went public via a SPAC merger in 2021. On the men's side, PDE5 inhibitors (generic sildenafil/tadalafil) are heavily marketed, and enclomiphene has featured as a primary testosterone-related offering. Because the company is public, revenue breakdowns are available in SEC filings.
A public company built on PDE5 inhibitors, with enclomiphene as its testosterone play.
What people take it for
What it is taken for. Approval, where it exists, covers only some of these.
How it works
Hims connects consumers to clinicians who can prescribe generic PDE5 inhibitors for erectile dysfunction and enclomiphene (a SERM) for raising endogenous testosterone. Revenue is subscription-based with medication fulfillment.
Safety in detail
Hormone-modulating and ED therapies require clinician evaluation and monitoring. Off-label enclomiphene use carries documented considerations.
What it does to fertility
Enclomiphene generally preserves fertility (endogenous stimulation), in contrast to exogenous testosterone.
What has to be monitored
The bloodwork this needs, and the reason it belongs with a clinician rather than a website.
- Testosterone
- LH/FSH
- Estradiol
- Cardiovascular review for PDE5 use
What people get wrong
Nothing recorded here yet. There is almost certainly something people get wrong about this one, and the blank space means we have not written it down, not that the record is clean.
Who profits, and who pushes back
Nobody is named here yet, because we have not done that work on this entry. Read that as unfinished. Somebody almost certainly sells this, and somebody almost certainly disputes it. Assume both until we have checked.
