What can go wrong

All testosterone prescribing carries the standard TRT risk profile (polycythemia, fertility suppression, cardiovascular and prostate monitoring needs). Hone's claims about a 90-day retest cadence and hypogonadal-only prescribing are company statements; independent verification of adherence is not established here.

This is something to take to a clinician. The Atlas can tell you what is known about hone health in general. It cannot tell you what is happening in your body, and the difference matters most for exactly the symptoms that bring people to this page.

Hone Health, reportedly launched around 2020 and led by co-founder and CEO Saad Alam, is a membership-based telehealth platform offering at-home hormone testing and, for men it states are hypogonadal, testosterone therapy. Hone states it retests patients every 90 days and prescribes only to hypogonadal men. The company was named in KFF Health News / CBS News reporting (2024) on TRT telehealth, and KFF reported that Hone is among sites that pitch to military veterans.

Tiered membership; the company says it tests every 90 days.

What people take it for

These are the reasons people give for taking it. They are not effects it has been shown to have.

  • At-home hormone lab testing
  • Membership physician consultation
  • Testosterone therapy for stated-hypogonadal men

How it is supposed to work

Hone sells tiered memberships: an entry-level lab-testing tier (stated ~$65), a premium tier including labs plus physician consultation, and a separately billed TRT tier. Men identified by the platform as hypogonadal may be prescribed injections, cream, or dissolvable troches.

Safety in detail

TRT involves significant physiological effects and requires evaluation and ongoing monitoring by a qualified physician. Self-administration without medical oversight carries documented health risks.

What it does to fertility

Exogenous testosterone in any form Hone offers (injection, cream, troche) can suppress spermatogenesis and impair fertility.

What has to be monitored

The bloodwork this needs, and the reason it belongs with a clinician rather than a website.

  • Total/free testosterone
  • Hematocrit
  • PSA (age-appropriate)
  • Estradiol

What people get wrong

Nothing recorded here yet. There is almost certainly something people get wrong about this one, and the blank space means we have not written it down, not that the record is clean.

Who profits, and who pushes back

  • Fitness/athlete promoters

    Promotes itvaries

Specific Hone athlete/influencer partnerships are not publicly confirmed here. Where a creator is compensated, that relationship is a paid endorsement and must be disclosed under FTC guides; treat any individual paid status as unverified until confirmed.

The people taking it

Per KFF Health News (2024), Hone is among telehealth TRT sites that pitch to military veterans, alongside general middle-aged-male fatigue/low-energy audiences.
